One of the many places we will visit during our 2025 Gathering in Scotland is Leslie's Cross at Chapel of Garioch Church. Clan Leslie Society International was tasked with rasing £10,000 for the Cross and we definitely rose to the occasion. The generosity of our members made this project possible, showing what we can do when we all work together. Read the introduction to the story of how the Leslie's Cross came to be by the late David Leslie:
When Clan Leslie Society International agreed to support the raising of money, by donation, for the erection of a memorial back in 2009 my dream of replacing the long lost original memorial on the Battlefield of Harlaw, erected almost 600 years before to the Leslies killed at the battle, looked like becoming a reality. Research had established that the original memorial had been named ‘Leslie’s Cross’ but sadly did not uncover the original location of the cross on the fields of Harlaw. The Clan ‘just’ needed to raise about
£10,000 to accomplish this, no mean feat.
As our Clan Chief, The Honourable Alexander Leslie made mention in his foreword in the Dedication Booklet published to commemorate the unveiling of the Cross, ‘I witnessed something truly remarkable.’ I also witnessed this ‘something truly remarkable’ when Leslies from around the world rallied to the task of raising the money required for the new memorial.
