John Randolph Leslie was Shanes proper name and was the 3rd Baronet of Glaslough,
County Monaghan, Ireland. Sir John was the oldest brother of Norman & Lionel
Leslie. Norman was killed in France during the first world war and is buried at
Armentieres.
When John started writing his book he was invalided in hospital and was a member of the British Ambulance Corp. He wrote the book from the perspective of a very upper class England.
He attended Eton and Cambridge University. Married to Marjorie Ide the daughter of
General Henry Clay Ide.She died in1951 and Shane married an Iris Carola Laing.
